Retail and Business

Chairman: Gareth Gammon

Summary report

This memo is in the form of summary rather than a detailed minutes of the meeting.

It is agreed that a report will be submitted to the executive in advance of each meeting and subsequent to the groups own meeting. Additional members of the group are welcomed. Where needed, consultancy advice will be sought, especially if this can be funded. Alton may be able to help, for example.

The Group has been enlarged to include:

Trevor Towner, Gill Towner, Tracey Richardson, Trevor Boydon, John Sparrow, Judy Sparrow, Gareth Gammon, Jonathan Berry, Marcus Cover, Philip Haines, David Harding.

The group feels it needs more direction from the Management Committee in terms of its remit, and would like to receive copies of the research results and reports to ensure any proposed activity is appropriate.

Whilst the group recognises the need to look at what the town needs from the business community, and what the business community needs fro the town, a specific agenda or aim is required to provide focus.

For businesses, employees, suppliers and clients, regardless of the sector, Petersfield has a unique, vibrant business community, is well connected to the south coast and London via a main line train line and the A3. The town has good infrastructure with retail, business, industrial and trade sites. The physical environment provides a pleasant working environment.

Inward investment is noted from branded retail outlets, and office space availability on Bedford road.
